Bio as though written in five years time…-task 3

As part of our creative futures module, we were asked to write a bio as though it was written by ourselves in five years time. The idea is for the bio to be as ambitious as we would like including goals from the previous blog post. The idea of writing a bios about ourselves can feel really overwhelming so I decided to look at other bios from illustrators with careers paths i would love to achieve.

Below is an example of Sally Payne’s bio from her website. I chose to look at sally as she is a freelance illustrator and surface designer, two jobs i would love to work toward within the industry.

From the screenshot above we can see Sally sticks to a first person tone for her bio, to give that more light hearted friendly feel, maybe giving that element of making the reader feel as though you’re just having a chat.

Another example i found was from Emma Jayne. Emma Jayne is also an illustrator and surface designer and has worked with a range of different clients as mentioned in her bio. Like Sally Payne her bio is in first person and had a similar friendly approach to it.

Things I would like consider including in my own bio:
-working freelance as an illustrator and designer
-worked as a surface designer for companies such as H&M kids and mini boden
- a focus on children’s illustration
- illustration for children’s books

Aspirational bio draft

Hello, I am a freelance illustrator and surface designer based in Staffordshire, UK. I graduated from Staffordshire University in 2023 with a BA (Hons) in Illustration, since then i have took my love for bright colours and patterns and applied it to a range of projects and clients including H&M kids, mini boden, Sainsbury’s homes and stationery work for Scribbler cards. As well as freelance work I also sell my own artwork through etsy and my own personal shop site, specialising in stationery and homeware textiles such as cushions and tea towels,

This bio is simple rough and relates back to my ambitions relating to our first session. I am not sure how i could get to these areas currently however, using this module I aim to look at my area of interest and really developing that five year bio and plan.
